The Importance of Amino Acids in Our Daily Lives

Wednesday, May 20, 2015 12:22:39 PM Europe/London

Amino acids are the basic building blocks of proteins, and you can find them in foods like meat, dairy products, legumes like peas and beans and soy. In addition, even though it is possible to get the necessary amount of amino acid from the normal protein diet, it is sometimes necessary to supplement the dietary quotient of amino acids through ways like taking protein shakes, tablets and caplets. Supplements are available in dissolvable crystallized forms that you take by either mixing with water, juice or food.

We will mention just a few areas where amino acids play an important role though their importance and involvement in the human body far outweighs the context of this article.

The Aging Process

Aging is inevitable for all living creatures though it is possible to minimize the effects of the aging process in certain organs like the skin where aging is easy to spot. Alpha-hydroxyl treatments have been the norm for a while in the anti-aging process, but now amino acids are being preferred over them as they bear better results with less adverse effects. One of the reasons amino acids are preferred to the alpha-hydroxyl treatments is that they do not make the skin oversensitive to light that in turn results in less irritation compared to the effects of alpha-hydroxyl treatment use.

The amino acids are also vital in skin rejuvenation through the removal of wrinkles by rehydrating the skin and his in turn makes the skin smooth. Moreover, they remove the fine lines and exfoliate the skin over and above reducing the effects of over exposure to the sun.

The effects if amino acids in the aging process are not only external, but they also have internal benefits. The amino acid – arginine that has anticoagulating effects helps reduce severe heart and vessel conditions because of clogging. It also aids in the reduction of cholesterol levels. The amino acid – Leucine increases the appetite has also healing properties that help in the repair of damaged cells. Another amino acid – Cysteine plays a key role in fat metabolism, boosting the immune system and prevention of heart diseases. These are just but a few of the amino acids present.

Weight Loss

Obesity is one of the causes of heart attacks due to clogged vessels, hypertension, diabetes and even cancer and some amino acids play major roles when it comes to weight loss by facilitating the burning of fats more efficiently and suppression of appetite.

Tryptophan, carnitine, and phenylalanine are the amino acids responsible for the aversion of obesity. Since obesity is majorly blamed on the inability of the bodies to burn enough calories and storage of the remaining calories as fats. Phenylalanine increases norepinephrine in the brain, which lowers the appetite. Carnitine avails fatty acids for metabolism hence reduction of fay molecules within cells. Tryptophan decreases the body’s desire for carbohydrates.

The amino acids mentioned in this article are, but a few of all the amino acids present as the amino acids are classified into two groups; essential and non-essential amino acids. The body cannot manufacture essential amino acids, so their supply is through dietary means and the now- essential are equally important but the body manufactures them.
